About

This blog details my magic carpet ride of world travel.

The premise is to fulfill my restless spirit, and to combine my loves of travel, creative writing, languages, and photography.

I don’t consider myself as intrepid, but I am curious about the world. I enjoy writing and expressing my thoughts. I have a working knowledge of French and Spanish, and I’m interested in how inter/intra national quirks influence language. I like the way that fabulous photographers can capture the essence of a moment. I am not one of them; I only had my Oppo smartphone to document my journeys and I hope I have done those people and places justice.

In 2016 I was fortunate to have the time and money to complete a four month spin, west to east, around the planet, which itself is spinning in infinity – so it was a type of  ‘spinception’ if you like.

I had travelled before, but never on my own. When I told people of my plans, many shook their head in amazement, but they didn’t say the words I was thinking: “this is crazy.”

I set out to conquer my fears – mainly fear of flying and fear of heights – and to face the world and its preconceptions.

That 2016 trip involved travel from Australia to Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Canada, Iceland, London (U.K.), Ireland, Paris (France), Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Malta, Mallorca, Greece, Cambodia, Thailand, then home to Brisbane, Australia. I don’t list them here to impress. I list them to show how mad this idea was! And this is a shortened version of the original list. But I wanted a taste of places I had never been.

To make the journey not so lonely, I incorporated visits with friends/family, but for 90% of that trip I was alone.

Since returning, with increased confidence and a whetted appetite for more, I intend to appease my restless spirit more often (if time and money allow) and detail those experiences here.
